A person died and two others were injured in a fire at Doholi VDC in Gulmi district on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Tulsi Bahadur Lama (55) of Doholi VDC-1, according to local Toplal Aryal. Lama died while trying to douse the fire that had engulfed his dry crop field at Doholi-5. Similarly, two locals namely Lok Bahadur Gurung and Min Bahadur Lama were injured in the incident. A fire ripping through the Bagbazaar of Dadeldhura is spiraling out of control as a fire engine dispatched from Dipayal is yet to arrive at the incident site. Efforts are being made to bring the fire under control. The fire which started from Rajai mattress shop in Bagbazaar at 6 am is spreading from one shop to another. Madan Prakash General store, Baidhyanath cotton industry, Sidha Binayak Traders and another vegetable shop have been completely destroyed in fire while other nearby shops have sustained minor damages. Aditya Dahal is a child prodigy popularly known as Google Boy of Nepal. He was born in Chabhail, Kathmandu. As of 2015 he is 4 year old.

He has not taken any class in school but can write Nepali, English, Korean, Chinese and other language too. He has proved himself a good forecaster too. He can not speak and gives his answer by writing on paper. Initially, he shocked his parents by writing the names of all the countries in the world and the name of their presidents. He now remembers the name and occupation of everyone he meets , meaning of every words asked to him and even the meaning of the words from different language.

One of my foreign friends, who works in an INGO in Nepal, asked me an interesting question. “How many Mahabir Pun do you have in your country?” His was a serious question but I was clueless. I simply said “I know Mahabir Pun and his great works, but I don’t know who others like him also involved in similar activities”. He smirked. “Well, your answer is not entirely wrong” he heaved a deep breath and continued “If there are a few more people like Mahabir Pun, the face of rural Nepal will get a complete transformation.”

Mahabir Pun was born in Nangi village, Myagdi district, in 1954. This is a village dominated by the population of Pun Magar. The main occupation of the people here is agriculture, but most of the young boys here prefer to join in the armed services. Migration rate is also equally high. Improvement of financial condition encourages families to migrate nearby city like Pokhara or Kathmandu.

Mahabir Pun spent his childhood in Nangi village. He attended a village school where education was rudimentary. Apart from school study, his job was to graze cattle, which he never enjoyed. He always wanted to have better education which was a distant thing in his village. The school lacked all basic infrastructures required for students.

Meanwhile, his father, serving in the British Army, migrated to Chitwan. This made the boy much happier. In Chitwan, Mahabir began attending a better school, which had everything that Mahabir dreamed of in his village school. He passed high school with flying colours. Soon after finishing the high school, in order to support the growing need of his family, he became a teacher. He remained in the teaching profession for over a decade until an opportunity fell on his way to study a bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

After a long stay abroad he returned homeland in 1992. He arrived in his village with a renewed energy and vitality. He wanted to bring a new lease of life to the people of his village. The first thing he did was establishing a school and began teaching there. While teaching to young prodigies, he realized they lagged behind the city students. Hence, he determined to introduce computer education to all students. Besides computer education, he also wanted to connect his village to rest of the world. He began communicating with his foreign friends and some organizations. “I still remember the hardship I had undergone in those days. I would walk six hours to reach the nearest highway then to Pokhara. All in all it would take two days to reach Pokhara, just to check emails. I would stay a few days in Pokhara and contact my friends. It was really a tiresome job, but in the end my efforts bore fruits as some of my Australian friends donated me a few used computers. Now we had computers but no electricity! This made me to set up two small hydro generators at a nearby stream. That subsequently enabled to power on the computers” said Pun with a smile on his face

Nepal signed various important agreements including transit treaty with China. The agreement was signed following a meeting held between Prime Minister KP Shama Oli and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of the People , PM’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Gopal Khanal informed. KATHMANDU, April 29: The final rites of journalist and folk song writer, Surya Kumar Chhetri, will be held this afternoon.Chhetri, who also holds the post of Secretary at the Nepal Press Union, was suffering from brain tumor. The 33-year-old journalist was declared dead at 8:30 pm on Thursday evening at the Annapurna Neuro Hospital in the capital city.His body will be kept at the Nepal Academy for two hours for those wishing to pay their tribute to the journalist.Chhetri, who underwent a surgery for brain tumor in 2014, had been on regular medication and medical consultation. He was also treated in India last year following the surgery. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has ruled out the possibility of toppling the government anytime soon. “But this government will not remain at the helm forever. Change in government is a common in democracy,” said the prime minister. Speaking with journalist at Biratnagar on Friday, PM Oli complained that the government’s good works have been criticised. “There is no need to lend ear to criticisms if one is doing good work,” said PM.PM Oli remarked that the upcoming budget will be a budget for development and his government is unveiling unique programmes in this budget. Claiming that the upcoming budget will bring new policies and programmes for the development of the country and also guarantees their effective implementation, PM Oli said, “This will not be a traditional budget that records mere income and expenditure. If investments underperform or expenses go up, the insurer has to absorb the loss. With a non-guaranteed policy the owner, in exchange for a lower premium and possibly better return, is assuming much of the investment risk as well as giving the insurer the right to increase policy fees. If things don’t work out as planned, the policy owner has to absorb the cost and pay a higher premium

M 7.0 earthquake beneath the island of Melampa in the Vanuatu island chain of the southwest Pacific Ocean occurred as a result of thrust faulting on or near the boundary between the Australia and Pacific plates. The earthquake is located nearly 100 km to the east of the New Hebrides Trench, the bathymetric expression of the plate boundary between the Australia and Pacific plates, where lithosphere of the Australia plate subducts into the mantle beneath the North Fiji Basin. At the location of this earthquake, the Australia plate moves east-northeast with respect to the Pacific plate at a velocity of approximately 84 mm/yr.

The Vanuatu region frequently experiences large earthquakes; 23 events of M 7 or larger have occurred within 250 km of the April 28, 2016 event over the preceding century. The largest was a M 7.7 earthquake in May 1965, 130 km to the north of the April 28 event. Ram Bahadur Bomjon (born c. 9 April 1990, sometimes spelled Bomjan, Banjan, or Bamjan), also known as Palden Dorje (his monastic name) and now Dharma Sangha, is from Ratanpur, Bara district, Nepal.
He drew thousands of visitors and media attention by spending months in meditation. Nicknamed the Buddha Boy, he began his meditation on May 16, 2005. He reportedly disappeared from the hollow tree where he had been meditating for months on March 16, 2006, but was found by some followers a week later. He told them he had left his meditation place, where large crowds had been watching him, "because there is no peace". He then went his own way and reappeared elsewhere in Nepal on December 26, 2006, but left again on March 8, 2007. On March 26, 2007, inspectors from the Area Police Post Nijgadh in Rathinapuri found Bomjon meditating inside an underground chamber of about seven square feet.
On 10 November 2008, Bomjon reappeared in Ratanapuri and spoke to a group of devotees in the remote jungle

Costs of damages and losses are estimated at $7 billion, according to the government. “There are scorpions,” said Pandey’s mother Saraswoti, 40. “The other night, I saw a snake hanging down from the ceiling,” she said. During monsoon season, rain comes pouring in through the tin roof. In the winter, they try to plug up drafts with hay and build bonfires outside. The only relief that reached the Pandey family was a tarp and some bulk rice and lentils. They haven’t received any rebuilding assistance from Nepal’s government, which has faced criticism at home and from international donors for its handling of one of biggest natural disasters in the country’s history.Although $4.1 billion in international aid has been pledged by donors, only a small fraction has been committed and disbursed. The first thing I do is try to remember and brainstorm for the images and the things I remember most clearly because if it sits clearly in your memory it’s probably been prioritized and is most important. As wildfires rage in Nepal, Department of Forests finds it is too ill-equipped to fight them, Over 400 forests caught fire every day On Sunday, fires raged in 457 forests across the country, the highest number recorded in the last 20 years. Hundreds of thousands of hectares of forests across the country have been gutted in the last one week, with over 350 forest fire incidents recorded everyday during the last one week from several places in the country. Regional South Asia Wild Land Fire Network Foundation, which monitors wildfires in the South Asia region, said that 457 incidents of forest fires were recorded on Sunday in Nepal. "Over 350 forest fire incidents have been recorded every day on an average for the last one week," Sundar Sharma, the foundation's coordinator, said. He, however, said that the foundation has yet to ascertain the exact areas were forest fires hHe said that the fires destroy not only forests but also entire ecology, wildlife and rare herbs. So far this year, the fires have claimed one child, injured half a dozen people and gutted over five dozen homes. Sharma has asked concerned authorities to bar people from entering forests for the next two weeks, a period with high possibilities of forest fires. "Next two weeks is the peak time for forest fires in Nepal. I request the concerned authorities to declare high alert and prevent people from entering the forests," said Sharma. In 2009, 59 people, including some Nepal Army personnel, who were deployed to douse fire, were killed. Several studies conducted by the government as well as non government sector have shown human negligence as the main cause behind the forest firesave occurred this year
